The Buddhist Circuit of Nepal is a complete tour package that covers all the significant places related to Lord Buddha in Nepal. Actually you can say that this tour is a visual aid to Buddha’s life and development of Buddhism in Nepal. You will be able to know about Buddha’s detail information, his birth place, place of his enlightenment and his teachings. Although this is mainly a pilgrimage tour, you will also be able to see the great archaeological victory of mankind. There are 62 archaeological sites in Lumbini Region exhibiting different event’s in Buddha’s life.

Buddhist influences are evident in the culture of Nepal because Buddha was born in Lumbini (which is now in Nepal) and his clans – the Shakyas later moved to Kathmandu valley and helped establish Buddhism.

The main attractions of this tour are Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), Boudhanath and Namobuddha in Kathmandu, great Ashoka Pillar, Sacred Pond, Temple of lords, Maya Devi Temple and remains of Old monastery in Lumbini, religious and archeological sites at Devdaha and Ramagram.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu Nepal

We highly suggest that you arrive in Nepal at least one full day before the intended date of your tour as it will give you an opportunity to allow for any jetlag. Our representative will receive you at the airport and take you to Three Star Hotel. Depending upon your arrival time, you many explore ”Thamel”, the tourist hub in Kathmandu. In the evening, we host a welcome dinner at a typical Nepalese Restaurant with local music and ethnic dance. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu. Included meal: Dinner

Day 2Visit Bouddhanath and Swyambhunath Temple in Kathmandu

After having breakfast at the hotel we will start for a full-day tour of Kathmandu and we will visit swayambhunath temple. This temple is famous as ’monkey temple’, for the innumerable monkeys that have made the temple their permanent residence. Swayambhunath is a stupa based on top of hill, from where we can generally view the scenery of Kathmandu Valley. After that we visit to Boudhanath, a Buddhist Stupa said to be one of the largest in the world and it has become the focal point of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. It is considered to be one of the most important Tibetan Buddhism monuments outside Tibet. There are 30 gompas in the premises of Bouddhanath. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 3Visit Namobuddha

After having breakfast we will drive to Dhulikhel which is a small quiet town, known for its traditional crafts, lies 30 km east of Kathmandu from where we will take you for a hike to the famous Namobuddha (Hail of Buddha). According to legend, a prince discovered a starving tigress about to devour a boy. Out of compassion the prince offered his body to the tigress in the boy’s place. His remains are said to be enshrined in the main stupa. After visiting Namobuddha we will return to Kathmandu. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 4Drive 7 to 8 hours from Kathmandu to Lumbini

After having breakfast, we will drive to Lumbini, the place where Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama (Gautam Buddha). This birthplace of Lord Buddha is one of the most important holy places where Buddhists from all over the world come to make a pilgrimage in pursuit of peace of mind. King Ashoka, after uniting the Indian sub-continent, made a pilgrimage here in the 3rd century BC and dedicated a stone pillar which remains to this day. There are also records of pilgrimages by renowned Chinese Buddhist monks up to 7th century. Lumbini Sacred Garden has 22 monasteries established by 15 countries. Lumbini became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, and a development project is being carried out under a master plan designed by renowned architect Kenzo Tange.

Evening, we will take you for a short sightseeing tour around the birth place of Lord Buddha.

Day 5Lumbini Tour

The UNESCO World heritage site of Lumbini is developed under master plan in the area of 6km X 2km. We will start our tour from the ’New Tourist village’ and visit the World peace pagoda and museum. This is also the pilgrimage concept of master plan to introduce Buddhism and purify mind through monastic zone. Monasteries of Mahayani and Teravadi Buddhism are spread across the cannon. Finally we visit the Mayadevi temple with its bas-relief sculpture depicting Maya Devi holding on with her right hand to a branch of pipal tree and giving birth to the infant Buddha who stand up on a lotus pedestal. The Statue of nativity scene and ruins of old temple walls dates from 3rd BC to 12 AD. There you will also find the ancient museum that is Kapilvastu Museum; with the lots of pottery, jewelry and ornaments in museum. We will also visit Asoka pillar which still displays the inscriptions explaining his visit to the birth place of Buddha. Overnight in Lumbini.

Day 6Explore religious sites of kapilvastu

After having breakfast, Drive and visit religious and archaeological sites of Tilaurakot, Gotihawa, Kudan, Niglihara and Sagarhawa. Tilaurakot is the ancient Kapilavastu – the capital of Shakyas, where Buddha spent his first 29 years. Kudan was where Buddha was received by his father after his access to enlightenment. King Suddhodana specially built the Kudan (Nigrodharma Park) for the accommodation of the Buddha and his followers. Gotihawa is the birth place of Krakuchanda Buddha. Niglihawa is where Kanakmuni Buddha was born. Sagarhawa is the archaeological findings as ”place of the massacre of the Shakyas”. Overnight in Lumbini.

Day 7Visit to Devdaha Ramgram and drive back to Kathmandu

Included meal: Breakfast and Dinner
Drive and visit religious and archeological sites at Devdaha and Ramagram. Devdaha is the ancient capital of the Koliya kingdom. Devdaha is the maternal hometown of Queen Mayadevi (mother), Prajapati Gautami (step-mother), Princess Yasodhara (consort) and where Prince Siddhartha had spent his childhood. Ramgram Stupa which was made in the age of Buddha and it contains one of the astudhatu of Lord Buddha. Ramgram Stupa is secret place for Buddhist and for all the Buddha and Buddhism lover. It is seven meter high brick stupa consisting of relic (one of the eight astha dhatu) of Lord Buddha. The Stupa was built by the king of Ramgram, who was the eighth king to obtain the Buddha’s relics. After visiting Ramgram, and we will drive to Kathmandu. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 8Fly home

Time to say good bye to the mountains as your journey in Nepal comes to an end today! We hope you enjoyed the tour with us, and are sure you’ll be back in your trip somewhere in the Himalaya again. Depending upon your flight time, you can either indulge yourself with personal activities, explore Thamel – the shopping paradise, go for a walk nearby or, take rest. Approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight a representative from Trek & Climb will transfer you to the airport. On your way home you’ll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
